Course Description:
Cardiovascular disease is currently the number one cause of death in the United States. Given the prevalence of cardiac-related diagnoses, it is likely that a significant number of the patients under your care either are, or will be treated with a medication related to the cardiovascular system. The vast array of drugs available for associated treatment strategies makes it imperative that you have a solid working knowledge of cardiac medications.
Attend this timely and broad-based program and learn how to distinguish between anticipated and unanticipated outcomes of pharmacologic treatment and become more adept at anticipating possible contraindications for specific patients and patient groups. Judith Schipper puts her 30 years of clinical experience to work for you as she provides you with clinically-relevant pathophysiology, pertinent diagnostic approaches, and evidence-based treatment options.
Learner Objectives:
At the completion of this program, you will be able to:
- Utilize the current JNC VII guidelines for blood pressure treatment.
- Describe the appropriate selection of pharmacotherapies for treatment in cardiovascular disease.
- Distinguish the different treatment modalities for pulmonary hypertension.
- Explain the physiology of the renin angiotensin system.
- Recognize the importance and treatment options for managing dyslipidemia.
- Communicate the drug therapy options available to treat acute coronary syndrome.
- Summarize the treatment modalities of arrhythmia management.
- Identify the requirements of the pharmacological treatment and management of heart failure.
- Evaluate the pharmacological treatments of stable coronary artery disease and their role in prevention of further injury to the myocardium.
